Skyline Regional Park’s sunset trail limit matters more than its 10 p.m. gate time
Buckeye’s free-entry mountain preserve welcomes several kinds of trail user, with daylight access and leashed dogs.

A late-closing gate does not mean a mountain trail stays open after dark. At Buckeye’s Skyline Regional Park, the city lists trail access from sunrise to sunset, while entry gates close at 10 p.m. That distinction is worth checking before planning an evening walk.
The 8,700-acre preserve lies in the southern White Tank Mountains at 2600 North Watson Road, about two miles north of Interstate 10. Park entry is free. The trail system serves hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians, and dogs must be leashed. Use the current trail guide to choose a route that fits your group rather than assuming every loop has similar demands.

Plan a turnaround before starting and check weather, notices and available daylight. Carry what your group needs for the chosen outing, and stay on designated routes. Make room for other users and follow posted guidance; a shared trail works best when everyone has time to respond without a surprise at a blind corner.
The accompanying photograph records spring vegetation in 2023. It is a view of the actual park, not a forecast of what will be green or flowering this fall. Look for what the landscape offers on the day you visit, and let a manageable route become the beginning of familiarity rather than a test of how much ground you can cover.
